What is Korfball?
Korfball is a fast paced, dynamic sport and is the only truly mixed team sport in the world. Suitable for anyone, Korfball is similar to handball, netball and basketball.
With unique defending and mixed sex rules the game is much more varied. We are a friendly, charasmatic and fun sports club, ready to welcome everyone and anyone willing to give this unique sport a try! Don't hesitate to contact any of our friendly exec shown below for more information on training, Just Plays, events, tour and weekly socials.
Basic Rules of Korfball:
Originally from the Netherlands, the word ‘Korf’ is simply Dutch for basket. Korfball is the sport of the future, based on cooperation and equality of the sexes.
Teams must comprise 4 men and 4 women. Teams are split into two divisions, attack and defence, each consisting of 2 men and 2 women. After every two goals, the divisions switch so attackers become defenders and vice versa.
Korfball is a non-contact sport, and players can only mark/defend players of the same sex.
Players are not allowed to run with the ball. If a player receives the ball while stationary they may only pivot on one foot. If a player receives the ball while running and then shoots or passes, they are allowed two steps before releasing the ball. Play is allowed in 360 degrees around the basket.

CLUB AIMS
We are currently in our fourth year as a club and are looking to develop on our past few years success. We aim to expand on last few years achievements and propel the club forward. Through a greater involvement in leagues, an increase in the number of fixtures, and a consistently strong number of socials, we hope that every member's experience of Korfball is worthwhile and memorable. We aim to spread diversity and equality through the unique sport of Korfball as well as welcoming everyone and anyone of all abilities and experience.
TOUR

This year has been a great year for Essex Blades Korfball Club. From successes in the local league to progressing to the third stage of BUC’s, we have grown as a club and aim to do SO much more, so watch this space!
Socials!
Korfball has many socials, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, from parties before fed, to swimming, rollerworld and even taking part in the SU quiz! Socials are a way in which the club is able to build on friendships, teamwork and general team morale. Joint socials are also a way in which the team are able to socialise and build friendships with fellow Essex Blades members!
Below are examples of the socials our current Social Sec Bethanie has organised with many more themes as well as non-alcoholic socials in the upcoming weeks! Get in contact if you want more info on upcoming alcoholic and non-alcoholic socials.

We have been able to host many successful fundraising and volunteering opportunities for our members. Some of our most successful were bake sales to students of the University, Krispy Kreme sales and also Face Painting at the Fireworks display hosted by the University.
We also decided to take part in a clickfunding project to raise money for new equiptment for training sessions and to travel to games in the Norfolk League.
