FAQS
The SU Council is a meeting where elected representatives from the three campuses meet to vote on policies and shape the direction of the SU. At these meetings, the representatives also hold the elected officers, to account and ensure that issues are raised and addressed in the appropriate manner.
Student Community Officers, SU Council representatives, and Chairs. Student Leaders attend these meetings to be held accountable and to update students on what they have been working on in the last month.
SU Council meetings take place approximately once a month, and usually there are 7 meetings across the academic year.
Council members can submit items they want to be discussed, policies they want to vote on or changes to the by laws. Ultimately, the Union Chair is who sets the agenda for every meeting.
Any SU Council member can contribute to the agenda by filling out this form. Any student can submit an agenda item to be discussed by the Council members by emailing sucouncil@essex.ac.uk.
To be a member of SU Council you must be elected on one of the SU Communities Elections. We hold one in May and one by election in October.
If you are elected, you will hold the role that you were elected for until the end of the academic year. If you want to remain as a member of SU Council, you must run again in the Election.
All Council members are required to attend all meetings, and any student can join to observe.
