Why do you want to represent your community?
Last year as an SCO, I thoroughly enjoyed being the voice for my community. I took great care in preparing for council meetings and talking to those I represented about anything they wanted, whether that be questions around the SU and the university, to feedback they wanted me to bring to council and sometimes beyond. This year, I still want to be involved, while also broadening my horizons by taking on a different role.
How would you aim to engage with your community?
Engagement is the most important part of any council role. This year, I want to strive to foster great relationships with the departments under my faculty in order to not only have a greater understanding of the issues facing students, but also to improve my ability to communicate with students, presenting them with a pressure free forum to provide feedback. Whether you prefer face to face meetings or anonymous questionnaires, I want to make your experience the best it can be and that starts with you!
