MAIA BERREMILI

Inclusive, engaged, proactive

Why do you want to represent your community?

I want to represent my community because I believe in the power of diverse voices and the importance of ensuring that international students have a platform to share their unique experiences and challenges. As someone who understands the hurdles faced by students navigating a new environment, I am passionate about advocating for their needs and helping to create an inclusive campus culture. I want to facilitate communication between international students and the Student Union, ensuring that their concerns are addressed and their voices are heard. Ultimately, I see this role as an opportunity to foster a supportive community where all students can thrive.

How would you aim to engage with your community?

To engage with my community, I would implement several strategies: Regular Communication: I would establish open channels of communication through social media, newsletters, and regular meetings to keep international students informed about relevant issues, events, and resources. Listening Sessions: I would organize informal listening sessions or focus groups to encourage students to share their concerns and suggestions directly. This would create a space for dialogue and ensure that all voices are heard. Collaborative Events: I would plan events that celebrate diverse cultures, facilitate networking, and promote social interactions among international students. This could include cultural nights, workshops, and skill-sharing sessions. Feedback Mechanism: I would create a simple feedback mechanism (like surveys or suggestion boxes) to gather input on issues affecting the community, allowing students to voice their opinions and concerns anonymously if they prefer. By actively involving international students in these ways, I aim to foster a sense of belonging and ensure that their needs and perspectives are at the forefront of the Student Union’s initiatives.
