YU-CHIH CHIU

Your ideal rep

Why do you want to represent your community?

In many Asian cultures, students are often encouraged to follow rules and respect authority, even when those rules or decisions may not always seem fair or could be improved. As a minority in the UK, it can feel even harder to speak up and share our thoughts. This is why having strong student representation is so important, and it’s something I’m passionate about bringing to our Asian student community. I want every Asian student to know that they are not alone, they are not unheard, and they have a voice in our student council. My goal is to ensure that your concerns, ideas, and perspectives are represented, so together we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment.

How would you aim to engage with your community?

While we may all identify as Asian, our cultures and experiences can vary greatly. It’s essential to connect with every Asian community, including members of all Asian societies, to truly understand and represent the unique needs of each group. My goal is to ensure that every voice is heard and accurately represented, so we can work together to address the specific challenges and opportunities that matter to us.
