Approachable, Supportive and Dedicated

Why do you want to represent your community?

As a third-year Sociology and Psychosocial Studies student who has lived off-campus, I’ve gained a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by students living outside university accommodations. I would love the opportunity to represent the off-campus community because I believe our voices deserve to be heard and our experiences addressed. Living off-campus offers independence but also comes with its own set of challenges, such as managing housing issues, commuting, and staying connected to campus life. I’ve experienced these first-hand, and I’m passionate about advocating for solutions that make off-campus living more manageable and integrated with the overall student experience. I want to be a representative who listens, acts, and works collaboratively with students, staff, and local communities to create tangible improvements, whether it's around housing support, transportation services, or fostering a greater sense of belonging. I am committed to promoting inclusivity and ensuring that off-campus students’ concerns are addressed with fairness and transparency. Together, we can build a more connected and supportive environment for all.

How would you aim to engage with your community?

As someone who has lived off-campus during my studies, I’m committed to actively engaging with the off-campus student community in ways that prioritize communication and support. As your representative, I would create regular opportunities for feedback such us conducting online surveys to ensure all voices are heard. Transparent communication is key, so I’d provide regular updates on relevant issues concerning students living off-campus. Additionally, I recognize that dealing with landlords and agencies sometimes can be a significant challenge for off-campus students. I would work to ensure that students feel supported if issues arise, whether it's difficulties with contracts, repairs, or other disputes. This could involve collaborating with the university to provide resources and workshops on tenants' rights when facing housing problems. Beyond that, I want to make sure that living off-campus doesn't mean being disconnected, and I am dedicated to creating a space where off-campus students feel empowered, supported, and included in shaping their university experience.
