Representation, Empower, Listener

Why do you want to represent your community?

I want to represent the black community here at the university of Essex to give us a voice, to empower our community to succeed, and to give us all the tools to do so. Representation for every community on campus is so important so that every individual feels safe, included, and heard here. Our campus is so wonderfully diverse, and it is essential that each student here have an outlet to be heard and feel seen by. I intend to be that outlet, to be the mouthpiece for my community, and to magnify their concerns and help resolve them.

How would you aim to engage with your community?

If given the opportunity to represent the Black Community here on campus, I would engage with them through social media platforms as well as various in person events to promote accessibility and so that each individual has the opportunity to be heard and feel comfortable to share. Whether an individual wants to be heard in private or public forum will be their decision, which is why it is so important to have various ways to engage with the community. In person events would also give us the opportunity to make friends and create connections within our community which is another item I find is essential to have the thriving community I envision.
