YOU ARE NOT ALONE...

As part of our industry leading vote like a student campaign, the SU Leadership Election is an amazing experience to be a part of, but it can overwhelming too.

But you’re in good hands! The SU’s Marketing Team will make sure you’re promoted as a candidate in the 2025 SU Leadership Election and also that every student knows that they can vote.

DURING YOUR APPLICATION

You’ll submit 3 words about yourself and a self-filmed video. These will both be used to promote that you’re a candidate in the SU Leadership Election.

Three words – these will be used on your candidate profile on the website and potentially, email, screens and social media
30 second Self-filmed video – filmed in portrait orientation. This will be added to the Essex SU Website and is a chance for you to convince students to vote for you. You may want to include:
- What skills and/or experience you have that are relevant to the role
- What activities you have been involved with at Essex SU
- Your personality traits

YOUR CANDIDATE BRIEFING

You’ll attend a mandatory Candidate Briefing as part of the process.

Here you’ll meet some of the marketing team as they talk you through the marketing in more detail. As part of the briefing, the marketing team will also film a short video and take some photos:

Photography

This will be used on the website and in other marketing assets
Do not wear anything with Essex SU or University branding on it

Short video

This is to promote you in a more dynamic way
You can wave, jump, turnaround, stand still - whatever feels natural to you
It’s a way to show of your personality
There is no sound in this video
This will be used on the digital screens between Square 3-4, and on Instagram Stories

Candidate Pack

At the Candidate Briefing, you'll be given your Candidate Pack.

This includes:

A Tote Bag
- Wear this with pride to encourage other students to vote
- Also handy for carrying your campaign materials around
Business Cards
- These have a QR code on them that students can quickly scan to take them to the vote webpage
Materials to make placards
- These are the colourful signs you might have seen that students hold up across campus

THE CAMPAIGN PERIOD

The Reveal MONDAY 3 MARCH

You’ll be revealed as an official candidate in the 2025 SU Leadership Election at 10:00 on Monday 3 March. We announce the candidates on several channels, including:

Essex SU email
Votelikeastudent.com website
Instagram
A printed flyer/newspaper on-campus
A giant billboard off Square 4 (this uses the photo we take of you at the Candidate Briefing)
A mini billboard on the wall by The Greenhouse Café
Screens on campus (these use the videos we take of you at the Candidate Briefing)

Campaigning MONDAY 3 MARCH - THURSDAY 13 MARCH

It’s then over to you to promote yourselves and win students votes! The marketing team will continue to promote the roles and encourage students to take part and vote like a student.

Voting TUESDAY 11 MARCH 10:00 - THURSDAY 13 MARCH 16:00

During the voting period, 11-13 March, the marketing team organise a lot of activity on Square 3. This includes a giant deck chair, bell to ring once you’ve voted, voting booth, goodies for voting (👀), noise and theatre!

Results FRIDAY 14 MARCH

Once the results have been counted and verified, you’ll be informed of the results directly. The winners will then be announced on the billboards, Essex SU Instagram, emails, website and the screens on campus. But remember, whatever the outcome, you’re a rockstar for just taking part!
