Love: a transient psychosis? A Jungian exploration of love and relationships.
This week, Facundo will be presenting on the subject of love from a Jungian standpoint! Timely considering that Valentine's has just passed:) abstract follows...
Abstract:
From popular culture to the complexities of our personal lives, love is omnipresent. There is an inherent mystery in love that evokes profound emotional reactions in all of us—both the most benevolent and the darkest. In experiencing love, we often project onto the other not only the entirety of our own psychological history but, more significantly, the hope that they will redeem and complete us. However, the Jungian path calls us to turn inward, assuming responsibility for our own individuation rather than seeking a 'magical other' to shield us from life's inevitable suffering.
In this presentation, I will examine love and relationships from a Jungian perspective. Drawing primarily on Jungian analyst James Hollis' book The Eden Project and insights from my clinical practice, I will explore fundamental questions surrounding this theme: What is love? Is love truly possible? What are we asking of the other? Is love merely a repetition of our personal history? Can love serve as a catalyst for individuation?
