How to create images for Youtube thumbnails using photoshop

REBEL RESOURCES: HOW TO CREATE IMAGES FOR YOUTUBE THUMBNAILS USING PHOTOSHOP

THIS GUIDE WILL TAKE YOU THROUGH HOW TO CREATE EYE-CATCHING AND ENTERTAINING YOUTUBE THUMBNAILS

 

      

1. OPEN PHOTOSHOP.  

Mac: Go to spotlight search in the far right corner of your screen and type Photoshop in the search, then press enter. 


Windows: Go to the start menu and type Photoshop in the search. Then click on the Photoshop application.


2. CREATE A NEW DOCUMENT. 

Select New from the File menu.

Select the Web Most Common Preset from the Web tab.

Click Create. 


3. Drop in the amazed_guy.jpg picture on another page next to the created one.

Drop the picture next to the first window left side at the top. This will create the next page.

 

We want to make this picture transparent so we can drag only the person from it and not the white background with it. 

So, in order to do that, we will select the Quick Selection Tool, make sure that the + symbol is selected from here: 

Start drawing over the person so it can look something like this: 

 

 

As you can see, the inside of his arms is selected as well.

To deselect them, press the - symbol from here:

And start drawing on the inside so it will look like this: 
(Make sure to play around the + and the - so the whole outline of the body is selected).
Righ-click on the workplace and select Layer Via Cut.

Select the Move Tool from the tools and start dragging the guy from the picture to the previous page by drag and drop and place it on the left page (our workplace) ace so it will look like this: 

Drop in the background picture "bathroom background" from the file on your desktop.

Resize it from the left and right edges so it will look like this:

and click on the Move Tool to save it.
 

 

5. Making the basic picture 

From the Layers box, drag the bathroom layer and put it under Layer 2. 

It will look like this: 

 

 


 

6. Blur the background

Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and make the Radius 13.0 Pixels.

 

7. Create outer glow.

Right click on the Layer 2 and select Blending Options.

Select Outer Glow and tick it.

Change the opacity to 100%.

Spread to 100%.

Size to 9px.

And click OK.

 

8. Add boxes for text

Select the Rectangle tool from the tools.

Set black as the fill colour and "none" for the stroke. 

 

Click on the workplace anywhere that you want and drag it until it looks something like this: 

 

When you create it, make another one like this but a bit smaller and move them around until it looks like this.

 

9. Add Text

Press the Text symbol from the tools and click on the first box that we generated.

Change the text color from the upper tools.

Just click on the white box and change it to your liking.

For this one we using this particular colour. 

Select 72 pt for the Text Size.

Start typing "MY MORNING" and start moving it until its over the first box that we created. 

Hit the Move Tool to save it and then the Type tool again to type the next word.

Click on the second box and type "ROUTINE". Place it over the second box. 

(If you want to adjust how big the boxes are, click on the layer that the box that you want to move is,

go to Edit < Free Transform, and by holding shift and by dragging it from one side, you can adjust it how big it looks like).

 

10. Make it look like it's in a box. 

Select the Rectange Tool again.

Change the Fill to none and the Stroke to white. 

Click on the top left corner and drag it until the right bottom corner.

Click on the Move Tool again to apply changes.
 

 

11. Add "WOW" emoji. 

 From the folder on your desktop, drag and drop the WOW.png

Drop it under the text that we generated and resize it until it looks like this: 

 

 

12. Drop Shadows

Right click on the WOW layer and select Blending Options.

Select Drop Shadow.

Change the opacity to 70%.

Distance to 5px.

Spread to 20px

Size to 27px
