REBEL RESOURCES: HOW TO CREATE IMAGES FOR SOCIAL MEDIA USING PHOTOSHOP

THIS GUIDE WILL TAKE YOU THROUGH HOW TO CREATE IMAGES FOR SOCIAL MEDIA USING PHOTOSHOP USING AN EXAMPLE 

 

1. OPEN INDESIGN.  

Mac: Go to spotlight search in the far right corner of your screen and type Photoshop in the search, then press enter. 


Windows: Go to the start menu and type Photoshop in the search. Then click on the Photoshop application.


2. CREATE A NEW DOCUMENT. 

Select New from the File menu.

Select the Web Most Common Preset from the Web tab.

Click Create. 


3. DROP IN BACKGROUND IMAGE.  

We've used a photo of a dog for this example which you may also choose to do to follow through this example, alternatively use any photo and use the steps to experiment and understand how to use the software.

Drag & drop an image from a folder on your PC/Mac onto your artboard.
Holding down shift, resize the photo to cover the whole artboard.
To zoom into your workspace hit ‘cmd’ (or ‘ctrl’) + ‘+
To zoom out hit ‘cmd’ (or ‘ctrl’)  + ‘-‘
 



Double click on the image to apply the change.

4. CREATE RETANGLE  

Select the retangle shape tool and draw a retangle over the artboard.

Change the colour of the rectangle to black.
Set the opacity of the retangle to 70%.

5. Add text.
 

Tick Character from the window menu.

Choose the Text Tool.

Click on your artboard to create a new text layer.

Type text over the top e.g.‘WITCH IS BEST FREN?’

Format the text e.g. Raleway Bold Size 115, colour white.

Press enter to apply changes
 or select the arrow tool.

Centre the text on the upper part of your artboard. 







Choose the text tool again and click on the artboard to create a new text layer.
Write text e.g.‘SOSIG BOI’ and and format it e.g. to Raleway Medium size 50, colour white.
Press enter to apply changes or select the arrow tool.
From your layers window right-click on the SOSIG BOI layer and select duplicate layer.
Repeat once more.
Select one of the SOSIG BOI layers and move it, using the arrow tool to the centre left of the artboard. 

Select another SOSIG BOI layer and move it to the centre of the artboard.
Select the last SOSIG BOI layer and move it to the centre right of the artboard.
Select the centre SOSIG BOI layer and using the text tool, change the text to CLOUD BOI.
Press enter to apply changes or select the arrow tool.
Select the centre right SOSIG BOI layer and change the text to TRASH BOI.
Press enter to apply changes or select the arrow tool.
Adjust the positioning of the text layers if necessary

6. ADD REACTS

Save Images of HAHA react; SAD react and WOW react to PC/Mac

Drop the HAHA react.png ?le from tfolder on your PC/Macnto the artboard.
Double click on the image (or press enter) to apply the change.
Select the Magic Wand tool, select the HAHA react layer and click on the white part outside the emoji.
Right click on the HAHA react layer and select rasterize layer.
Hit Delete on your keyboard to delete the white part.
Hit ‘cmd’ (or ‘ctrl’) + D to deselect your selection.
Hit ‘cmd’ (or ‘crtl’) + T on your keyboard to resize the emoji. Hold down shift while doing so.  
Press enter to apply changes or select the arrow tool.

Select the Emoji layer and the arrow tool and move it below SOSIG BOI
Repeat the above steps for WOW react.png and SAD react.png and move them below CLOUD BOI and TRASH BOI accordingly. 



7. ADD PICTURES 

To continue following this example save a photo of a hot dog, fluffy dog and a racoon to your PC/Mac.

Drop the hotdog.png into the artboard. 
Resize it and place it above the SOSIG BOI text.
Do the same for the fluffy dog pic and racoon pic accordingly. 
Drop a logo on your Desktop onto your artboard. Resize it and place it below WOW react. ?


8. EXPORT.  

Choose Quick Export as png from the File menu.
Choose Desktop as your save folder.
Export. 

9. DONE.
