Find and read your timetablehttps://www1.essex.ac.uk/examtimes/

Check this again nearer the dates, as changes do happen. These exams may NOT be the same as the ones you had in class. There are different rules and expectations – make sure you know what they are!

Revise – make sure you know what areas you will be tested on and practice.

There are practice sessions available on Moodle and Faser( FASER practice area, Moodle practice area. If you are unable to log in to FASER or Moodle, please contact the IT Helpdesk so that this can be resolved in time for your exams.) Also ask your lecturers if you have questions or concerns beforehand and many will run revision sessions you can join.

Make sure you know and understand what type of exam it will be

Exam format definitions

  • Remote, open-book: Your exam will take place remotely via an online learning platform (FASER, Moodle or Perception). You may refer to any physical or electronic materials during the exam.

  • In-person, open-book: Your exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer to any physical materials, such as paper study notes or a textbook, during the exam. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.

  • In-person, open-book (restricted): The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer only to specific physical materials, such as a named textbook, during the exam. Permitted materials will be specified by your department. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.

  • In-person, closed-book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam. There may be times when a paper dictionary, for example, may be permitted in an otherwise closed-book exam. Any exceptions will be specified by your department.

Do you need special requirements put in place?

If you have any– talk to SWIS – don’t assume that they know you and will make the arrangements on your behalf, go and see them a few weeks before the exams to get what you need in place  - going a day or too before may be too late

Check your equipment!

What are you allowed to take in with you? Anything not allowed will be removed, for example, all calculators are not equal, check what you can use and they are available in the Essex everything store.

Reg cards

You will need to bring your reg card with you to the exam, so find it! If you have lost it, arrange for a new one and if it is faded it may not be accepted. Please visit the Student support hubs if you need help getting a new card
