What I’ve Been Up To – April Update

It’s been a busy few weeks in my role as Vice President of Community and Engagement, so I thought I’d share a little update on what I’ve been working on recently:

Organising the One World Essex Fashion Show
I’ve been hard at work organising the One World Essex Fashion Show, closely collaborating with the Fashion Society to get everything sorted. We’ve been in regular contact, making sure all the finer details are covered.
At the moment, I’m speaking to an external company about lighting, staging, and a few other bits to help bring the show to life. I’ve also been chatting with the Fashion Society about how many attendees we can accommodate, to make sure it’s a brilliant night for everyone involved.
I’ve been recruiting volunteers for various roles within the show too – from backstage helpers to those greeting guests and taking them to their seats.
The floor plan has changed a few times as new ideas have come in, but we’re hoping to have it all finalised by the end of the week. Once that’s done, tickets will be going on sale shortly after.

Committee Work
I’ve attended all my committees as usual, making sure the student voice is heard loud and clear and contributing to those meetings.

Circuit Laundry Work
I’ve been working closely with Lily-May on Circuit Laundry. We attended a meeting together where all the future improvements were laid out – Lily’s written a full update on her blog if you fancy having a read.

Supporting Holi Celebrations
Helping out with Holi was brilliant. I got stuck in with everything from food preparation to setting up the event space, and helped run things on the day alongside the Engagement team. It was a great turnout and such a lively atmosphere. I really enjoyed it even though it was messy!

One World Essex Football Match
The planning for the One World Essex Football Match is now all sorted. Ian will now be reaching out to the different societies to get the teams confirmed. It should be a really nice event with a good atmosphere

Students' Priority Project
I’ve also been involved in the first activation of the Students’ Priority Project on campus. This involved getting out and about, gathering feedback directly from students about what matters most to them. It’s been brilliant hearing everyone’s thoughts first-hand, and this feedback will play a big part in shaping future work.

Training and Development
Lastly, I’ve taken part in some new training sessions organised by the Students’ Union. It’s been a great chance to pick up a few more skills and make sure I’m doing the best I can in my role.

Thank you for your time!
