Hey everyone! It’s been a busy time lately, so I wanted to share a little update on what I’ve been working on. From exciting events to making campus a safer and more inclusive space, there’s a lot happening, and I’m really excited about what is going on right now and what’s to come. I also want to apologise. For not having a blog last council meeting. I did upload one but there was an issue on my end where it said it uploaded but it ended up deleting my previous one. So apologies again
Working on One world Essex
I’ve been working on getting One World Essex off the ground—an initiative to bring together students, reps, and anyone who wants to help create a more connected and inclusive campus. It’s been amazing seeing so many people excited to get involved, and I can’t wait to see it grow!
I’m still working on one world Essex, as I want it to be perfect and better than last year. A meeting has been set up with all the relevant reps and relevant societies execs. This meeting will help us settle on a date to host the event that suits everyone. The meeting is also there so everyone has a chance to say what they want to see during one world Essex.
Lunar New Year Plans
I’ve also been working on setting up events and activities for The Lunar New year. I’m trying to bring the lion dance back to the campus, so I’ve been in contact with the company from last year. From the communication we had that should be taking place so that’s exiting.
The Light Trail
I’ve also been closely working with the Engagement Department to help set up The Light Trail. From the meetings at the very start of the project to helping them set up the event. I will also be working with the engagement department during the event. I’m excited on how it’s come out.
Improving Sub Zero for the LGBTQ+ Community
One of the projects I’m most passionate about right now is working with Noah, our LGBTQ+ Rep, to make Sub Zero a safer space for the LGBTQ+ community. We’ve been discussing ways to improve the environment and make it more welcoming for everyone.
We’re also planning something special for LGBTQ+ History Month, with an event to celebrate and honour the community. Plus, we’re exploring ideas for a regular event where LGBTQ+ students can gather and feel safe and celebrated in sub-zero or the in between.
