Hey everyone! I wanted to take a moment to share what I’ve been up to since starting my role as VP of Community & Engagement. It’s been a busy few months, but in the best way possible! Here’s a little peek into what’s been keeping me busy:
Building an Amazing Team
One of my first tasks was to recruit some incredible new officers, and let me tell you, they’re an enthusiastic bunch! It’s been such a joy working with people who are as excited as I am about making a difference. I can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish together!
Working on Parking for Commuting Students
Parking is a big deal for our commuting students, so I’ve kicked off a project to make it more affordable—hopefully, even free! Right now, we’re in the early stages, laying the groundwork and gathering all the info we need before presenting it to the university. It’s a slow process, but I’m optimistic!
Freshers’ Week Fun
Freshers’ Week was a blast! I got to help out with all sorts of mixer events and had such a great time meeting new students and catching up with returning ones. Seeing everyone come together, make friends, and enjoy the start of the year reminded me why I love this job.
Creating a Chill Spot for Commuters
Commuters deserve a space to relax and connect, so I’ve been working with different teams in the SU to make Func a welcoming hangout spot just for them. We want it to be a place where they can kick back between classes and feel at home on campus.
Visiting Our Campuses
I’ve also made it a point to visit our Southend and Loughton campuses. It’s been great meeting students there and learning about their experiences. It’s a reminder that our university community is bigger than just one campus, and I want to make sure everyone feels heard and included.
Planning for International Students' Day
Last but not least, I’m super excited about planning for International Students' Day! I’m teaming up with Colour for Scholars to put together something special. Our goal is to celebrate the amazing diversity of our student body and make sure everyone feels like they belong here.
