Paul Catling 1966 – 2024

It is with a very heavy heart that as an SU we are sad to report the passing of Paul Catling, a much loved and valued member of Students’ Union staff.

Paul joined the SU in 2011 originally working in the post office, then in 2015 he moved to The Store where he worked as Duty Manager and then Store Manager.

Over the course of his time with the Students’ Union Paul brightened the lives of hundreds of SU colleagues and many more student and staff customers of The Store.

Paul’s incredible qualities were twice recognised with awards by his colleagues, firstly at the SU Staff Awards in 2019 and then again this year, when he won the inaugural ‘Employee Choice Award’ and received an unprecedented standing ovation that demonstrated the deep love and respect of his colleagues.

Paul was an amazing man with a great sense of humour, whenever you went into the back office of the store, the team would be laughing at something Paul was saying, or just enjoying the banter between Paul and John.

All of us in the Students’ Union will miss him very much and our love and thoughts go out to his wife Lisa, his children and wider family.
