After studying at Essex for the past three years, Lucking opens up about why Graduation means so much to her.
Growing up in school, many teachers doubted her academic capability, almost making her believe she was not able to succeed. They saw her dyslexia as a complete barrier, but Aimée was determined to prove them wrong.
“I think I've always, always, always been so hard on myself because I've always had to work that little bit harder than the average person”,
This week, she achieves her goal and graduates with a First Class Honours in BA Sociology with Social Psychology.
Throughout her three years at Essex, there were moments where she doubted herself because of her learning disability, but she didn’t let that get in her way. She’s even been featured on BBC Essex’s show ‘Hashtag Essex’ where she discussed dyslexia, and her experience with it during her compulsory education.
“There were points where I just wasn’t sure I’d be graduating, and definitely didn’t think I was going to get a First under any circumstances”.
Aimée embraced the whole university experience – getting involved with events, making friends, and working in various roles for the university, gaining the confidence to leap into her dream career.
She’s a lover of the SU Bar and cheesy music, telling us: “I’ll probably tell my children about Milk It!”
So, for Aimée, it is not just about walking across the stage and receiving a degree. It’s proving that with some determination, nothing can stop you from achieving your goals.
