About us:
PolSoc is the University of Essex’s Political Society. We engage in discussions on a wide range of political topics, from local and campus politics to national and international issues.
At PolSoc, we value diversity in political beliefs and strive to create a safe and inclusive environment on campus for constructive interactions. We welcome all political opinions (within reason) and aim to provide students at Essex with a secure and inclusive platform for engaging in political discussions, debates, and social events.
Our events:
We organise informal and sociable biweekly events on Thursdays. Click on the "What's On" tab to see what events we've got upcoming
Examples of events that will take place this year:
- “This House Believes…” – Our longest-running and most popular event. The society becomes a parliament for the evening and debates what laws we believe should be passed.
- Group discussions
- Debates
- Socials at Top Bar and SU Bar
- Cross-party and cross-society events
- Guest Talks
- Roast of the Execs
- A Visit to the House of Commons
Almost all our events are followed by socials in Top Bar.
Aims:
-Provide a free, inclusive, and secure environment for discussing domestic and international politics.
-Encourage diverse political conversations.
-Raise awareness of campus politics, including the election and activities of SU Student Leaders and the SU Council.
-Enhance the political knowledge of our members.
-Promote increased political engagement on campus.
Joining us:
We currently have a free trial membership which will sign you up to our mailing list so you can get all the latest information on our upcoming events.
Becoming a full member of PolSoc will only cost you £3 for the whole year and will sign you up for our mailing list, give you discounts on planned trips, give you access to our group chat launching later this year, and much more.
