WHO ARE WE?
Hi there! If you’re on this page it must mean you’re passionate about STEM… we are too! Our society was created to promote inclusivity and provide a platform for a supportive environment for underrepresented people in STEM, as well as to provide opportunities, inspire and educate all individuals to work or study in STEM fields.
Our society focuses on reaching out to women, however all of our events and socials are open to anybody who is passionate about celebrating STEM!
OUR AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Our main aim is to promote inclusivity in STEM, whilst providing a supportive environment. We wish to provide opportunities to learn more about STEM, to teach others about STEM and to inspire others to work or study STEM subjects. A key focus of ours is targeting diversity and inclusion within the STEM industry and helping members wherever we can - whether that be career-wise or with university!

WHAT WILL YOUR MEMBERSHIP GET YOU?
1. A supportive and welcoming group of like-minded individuals!
We hold a lot of welfare and wellbeing events alonside career and study events. WiSTEM was created with the intention of having a safe space where individuals can have their voices heard – our messages are always open. We have a Whatsapp community (available in the Resources tab if you are logged in) and a Facebook group that is active throughout the year.
2. Keep up-to-date with current events and opportunities within the STEM industry!
Your membership gives you access to an exclusive weekly newsletter that gives you information on opportunities, talks, webinars and workshops to broaden your skills and knowledge outside of your degree, and provide experience for your CV.
3. Make a difference in the community!
We host volunteering and fundraising events for meaningful charities that aim to support STEM education and women's safety. In 2021, we won the Raising and Giving award and raised £975 – we aim to raise more each year!
4. Gain confidence in networking and meeting other successful women in STEM!
We host networking events, ‘How-To’ sessions and panel discussions so you can learn how to network and put your new skills into practice.
5. Friends and fun!
We’re not just about the educational stuff – we host lots of socials, quizzes, games nights and even study sessions throughout the year. Look out for events on our Events tab above (also on the Essex SU What’s On page), our Huzzle (read an article about us on Huzzle here), and our social media (scroll down for links).
