ESSEX BLADES Table Tennis
We are a friendly club with a diverse membership. We welcome all levels of play from those with experience to complete beginners. We would like to encourage players with disabilities to join us too. We run two training sessions each week where members can improve their techniques through practice and match-play. Our more experienced players can provide basic coaching for beginners; we have members who have taken part in the UKCC Level 1 Coaching Award. We have two women’s teams and two men’s teams which compete in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) league. This year, men's 2nd team has been promoted to Division 1.
Club Aims
Our aim this year will be to improve the standard of play throughout the club. Beginners will learn the correct techniques for the various strokes so that they can play with more confidence and consistency. Intermediate and advanced players will be focusing on improving the weaker aspects of their game. We are firmly committed to offering everyone who is willing to work hard the opportunity to make real progress. The spots on the teams competing for the university in the BUCS competition will be decided on merit and ability.
Club Objectives
We are looking to develop the social aspect of the club, as well as our involvement in volunteering and fundraising activities. We are also going to increase our knowledge of disability table tennis in the hope that the club can successfully accommodate disabled players now and in the future.
