Grief & Mental Health Support

The news that four of our student members tragically lost their lives Saturday 1st February has been heartbreaking for everyone at Essex.

Makyle Bayley, Eva Darold-Tchikaya, TJ Hibbert and Daljang Wol were all well-known, extremely active members of our student community, touching the lives of so many of us.

During this extremely difficult time it’s important to know that support is available from the University and Students’ Union for anyone that needs it.

UNIVERSITY OF ESSEX MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH SUPPORT

The Universities team of Wellbeing Assessors offer a welcome and friendly space where you will be able to talk about anything that is happening in your life.

You can make an appointment here which will last for 30 minutes and either be in-person, by telephone or by Zoom. Our appointments are available Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. If you have any difficulties booking an appointment, please email wellbeing@essex.ac.uk.

If you are concerned that a friend or flatmate may be experiencing some mental health difficulties, there are a number of ways you may be able to help them. Read more here.

Counselling is open to registered students, including those who are intermitting from their studies on medical grounds.

If you feel that counselling might be beneficial for you, you can complete a counselling form via My Essex. If you'd like to talk about counselling or have any questions before deciding whether you'd like to complete a form, you can book a wellbeing appointment on Colchester campus or visit the Wellbeing Drop-In at Southend or Loughton.

You can also use the Counselling Directory to help you find private counselling in the local area.
